The Batman Movie Review!!!

DC Comics presents the 6th incarnation of The Batman, with Robert Pattinson taking the role of the Dark Knight. To date this film grossed $771 million worldwide from a budget of $200 million, quickly bringing a sequel in the works. The cinematography gives the same feeling as the movie Joker, displaying the dark and gritty side of Gotham City. With James Gunn as the new Co-chairman and Co-Ceo of Dc Comics, will this version of Batman be able to become a three-movie series like the Christopher Nolan Batman?

This is a young Batman two years in the making and is not looked upon as a hero just yet. The Batcave is in an abandon subway station under Wayne Tower, his tech is in development and limited. The bat suit is a working progress but very effective in its early stages.  The suit is able to stop high caliber bullets, survive explosions and can form into a wingsuit allowing Batman to glide thru the city’s skyscrapers. The Gotham Police Department frowns upon Jim Gordon, portrayed by Jeffrey Wright, for considering Batman as an ally and allowing him to interfere in police investigations. The history of Bruce Wayne’s parents is different from what we know from the comics and movie adaptations. Thomas Wayne was associated with the crime boss Carmine Falcone after saving his life and Martha Wayne was mentally ill, even being a patient of Arkham Hospital.

Zoe Kravitz is the 4th actress to play Gotham City’s cat burglar and the third to be of African American decent to portray the character. In this film Selina is the daughter of the crime boss Carmine Falcone and works in the gritty Iceberg Club. Selina’s friend became mixed up with Gotham’s underworld, prompting Selina to protect her at all costs.  Selina later joins Batman in his crusade to bring the corrupt to justice before leaving Gotham City behind.

Colin Ferrell is the Penguin in this film with excellent performance. There were many changes from the first Penguin in Batman Returns played by Danny DeVito. Tim Burton made his Penguin closely related to the one in the comics, a man living in the sewers with a bird appearance and custom weapons concealed in umbrellas. The Penguin created by Matt Reeves runs the Iceberg Club seemingly as a legitimate businessman but also is associated with some of Gotham’s powerful upper class in illegal activities. With the success of this film, HBO Max has allotted the character to have his own spin-off series just like they did for the PeaceMaker.

This Riddler brought suspense to the film with his serial killings similar to Jigsaw. His murders were puzzles for Batman specifically to figure out while bringing fear to the upper class and police department of Gotham. He believed he is bringing justice to the city like Batman even though his methods are brutal. The Riddler was portrayed by Paul Dano and Jim Carrey played the character previously in Batman Forever. Carrey’s Riddler was based around the actor’s comical persona on films and television.

What was your overall impression of The Batman by Matt Reeves? Does this film measure up to the previous Batmen or do you think it fell short of expectations? Leave your thoughts below and check out SideShow Collectables for The Batman’s statues!

2019 Captain Marvel Movie Review!!

In the ending credits of Avengers: Infinity War, Nick Fury realized the Earth was in danger and The Avengers were not available to face this threat. Nick sent out a signal to Captain Marvel, a new hero fans have yet to see on-screen. 2019 Captain Marvel grossed over $550 million dollar so far, overshadowing any doubt that Captain Marvel will perform well among the latest Marvel releases. Was Captain Marvel everything you expected?

Carol Danvers is a part of the StarForce, a team which is similar to the Nova Corps in the MCU. In fact, The Nova Empire and the Kree Empire have a peace treaty with one another, which created an uproar among many. We get to see this how life was during this treaty and the conflict it created with the help of the cameo appearances from Ronan the Accuser and Korath the Pursuer. Their appearance in this film help express their importance in the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Why do you think Captain Marvel is used in the cinematic universe instead of Nova, when Nova was in the original story when Earth heroes fought Thanos for the Gauntlet? What of Adam Warlock? Adam was mentioned at the end credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2. He had a major playing part in the fight against Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Will he make an appearance in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame film?

The Skrulls made an appearance in this film, but their début was not as expected. Known as a villainous, devious warrior race in the comics, this version of the Skrulls turned out to be the victims of the Kree Empire. Mar-Vell was responsible for creating an engine which has lightspeed capabilities, an engine to help the remaining Skrulls evade the war and find a new home far away in the cosmos. Mar-Vell was killed for her secret project and the power core it has, which turned out to be the Tesseract. The likeness of Mar-Vell was then taken to become the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree, and this is where Carol uncovered the Kree’s true intentions which were completely hostile. In the comics, Mar-Vell was a male warrior and was known as Captain Marvel for quite some time in comic publications before changing that role to a female. Do you think it the change for Mar-Vell was just or was it nothing more than an unnecessary change producers made to the comic story?

The Stones that power the Gauntlet are from cosmic origins and they ultimately control the fundamentals of the universe. In the comic story, Thor was the strongest Avenger to battle Thanos. In the cinematic universe, Thor’s powers have doubled when fighting against his sister Hela, then increasing to greater heights after receiving Stormbreaker. Stormbreaker was specially designed by Eitri to combat the controlling power of the Gauntlet. This means that the full might of these weapons is determined by the will of the wielder. Are producers trying to convey that Captain Marvel could be perhaps stronger than Thor in the upcoming Endgame or will she just become another team player? Avengers Endgame will release April 26, 2019, answering all questions on where this story of the Infinity Gauntlet could be headedRelated image
What were your thoughts on Captain Marvel? Do you think she measures up to the universal threat laid before the Avengers?

Venom

Venom is apart of an alien race of symbiotes, when bonded with a host, becomes a powerful warrior taking on the personality and physical attributes of its host. What makes these symbiotes seem villainous is when they bond with a host, the symbiote would feed off the chemicals released from the host’s body, chemicals which are released when emotions like anger is triggered. Adrenaline is the chemical symbiotes primarily feed on. If the adrenaline isn’t released in a desired amount for consumption, the symbiote would find another host or dominate the mind and body of its current host(which is usually a superhuman) causing them to engage in extreme activities that would increase the adrenaline levels, eventually leaving the host depleted. Only way to rid oneself of these parasitic symbiotes is by high pitch sound waves or intense flame.

Spiderman was a perfect bond for the symbiote because as a hero with superpowers, daily crime fighting keeps his adrenaline levels at a high rate and for extended periods of time. Since Spiderman was Venom’s first host, every host after was able to have the powers of Spiderman. Venom became a nemesis to Spiderman after bonding with its next host Eddie Brock. Eddie had a deep hatred toward Spiderman, a hatred in which the symbiote fed on and acted upon as its own.

The Venom symbiote also has the ability to reproduce. Its offspring bonded with a serial killer becoming the villainous Carnage. Carnage in turn had an offspring called Toxin, which Carnage despised because it believed Toxin would be more powerful than itself and Venom. Eddie Brock eventually rid himself of the Venom symbiote, but small remnants of the symbiote bonded with Brock’s white blood cells creating the symbiote Anti-Venom. The Anti-Venom symbiote does not dominate its host like other symbiotes but does become active and protects its host when Venom or other symbiotes are present. The Anti-Venom symbiote operates like the white bloods in the human body which help defend and cure the body of viruses and infections.

Venom was featured in the live action film Spiderman 3, much to the disapproval of comic fans. Most comic fans expected a bulky powerful Venom as seen in cartoon and comic book, but instead received a smaller grade Venom who wasn’t as threatening as comic fans were raised to believe. The Spiderman franchise was rebooted in 2012 with better graphics and story line. Will Venom also get a recreated look? A look that comic fans would love and recognize as the true Venom?….

Blade

Vampires exist in the Marvel Universe. From their kind emerged Eric Brooks aka Blade, the DayWalker. Vampires are envious of Blade for being a hybrid between human and vampire. Blade dedicated his life to slaying vampires for they are the reason he was created, and they are responsible for the death of his mother. With the aid of his right-hand Whistler, Blade sweeps fear through the underworld of the undead up to Dracula himself…

With all their strengths, Blade is viewed as the perfect vampire. He lacks all vampire weaknesses: sunlight, garlic, silver, and holy symbols. His only weakness is the vampiric thirst for blood. Could Blade have the ability to turn humans into daywalkers?

In the Marvel Universe, Blade is found battling/partnering with other Marvel Heroes such as Wolverine and The Punisher. One of Blade’s vampire encounters was with Spiderman himself. The power of the vampire blended with natural powers of Spiderman created a Carnage like menace against Blade. What type of threat would Wolverine become if he became a vampire? Or could he be turned, since he has the healing factor? What of The Punisher? Could he be a match for Blade if he was a vampire or would he fall like many others?

Blade transitioned from the comic book to live action film, portrayed by Wesley Snipes. Blade is Marvel Comics first live action R-rated film. This movie was also a blueprint to upgrade the character from the 1973 comic book version. In the movie UnderWorld Evolution, Selene is granted the ability to survive sunlight and silver. Could she be a perfect partner for Blade against the undead? Do you think this would be an excellent film featuring these two characters?

Comic/Reality Crossover

Powers and abilities of heroes and villains has evolved to greater heights since their origins. This happens through time, when new writers bring fresh ideas to character development. Crossover topics became popular among comic fans, making readers wonder which character would rank at the top of his or her class. Live action crossover films or animations like Michael Habjan’s Superman vs Hulk are exciting short films comic fans would love to see all the time. This could be the reason Marvel has announced they will release the What If….TV series, further satisfying comic fans need for the many possibilities a story could have. Comic fans have speculated and debated on who the strongest heroes are and the most destructive villains throughout all the comic book universes. What creates these crossover scenarios is the focus on the powers and abilities of the characters and then how their strengths and weaknesses compare to each other. Comic crossovers has been created through many publications such as the Crossover Classics, Spawn vs Batman , SpiderMan and Batman and the Amalgam Age of Comics.

Let’s think about our own reality. The characters we know are all ideas from creative writers. With so much history of these unique characters, comics fans and even the creators fantasized on if supernatural powers could be real. But think, do humans have the hidden potential that has yet to be discovered? Stephen Hawking Universe gives us a perspective on our place in the universe and the awareness that infinite worlds exist in cosmos. The idea that the solar system is a huge model of how an atom functions, creates the belief that the solar systems of the universe could be the atoms to a greater being….

Astronomers have sent out radio signals throughout our space exploration history, in search of intelligence. This was the inspiration for films such as Contact. Scientific studies have shown that the brain is a transmitter and receiver of vibrational frequencies like a radio, but much more powerful than any on our planet. Now think for a moment, what if the ideas of comic writers are in fact mental transmissions from other worlds in the universe that contains such characters and cosmic beings?

Let’s look sci-fi films. Do you believe there are movies that hint some truths about the universe and our hidden potentials? In the film The LawnMower Man, the character Jobe explains that the unnaturally phenomenon such as telekinesis, isn’t new but a dormant natural function of man.

Humans are known to use approximately 10%-15% brain power. What will happen if we could use 100% in our daily lives, pushing the brain’s alpha waves to the maximum? Will we then become our original design? The human body has evolved and still evolving through each generation. Take this news clip of a boy who can see in the dark.

Haven’t we seen this before with Riddick? When you ask most people on Earth who created humans, they would answer by saying God. Is that the truth, or is that a myth told throughout time to hide who really designed our biological machines we call the human body?

Is it human evolution or self-realization? Do we have the dormant genetic codes that could produce feats of power some would consider unnatural like the world of the X-Men, or even portrayed in the popular TV Series Heroes? What are the true limits of our humanity?

Has human’ true potential been mentally locked away through the years of developing social structure such as religion, governments, and rationalization? What if the Matrix trilogy is explaining how to break such mental control on how we view our reality, from a worldly to universal standpoint? Just imagine if everyone on Earth could use 100% of their mental and physical potential. Immortality could be very possible, and the world order would never be the same. Instead of waging war over resources and power, we must come to realize that we are one race of beings among billions of life forms, intelligent and unintelligent throughout the universe. How are we to protect ourselves against natural or unnatural universal catastrophes when we are busy dominating each other? For example, movies such as Knowing and 2012 display natural occurrences that happen throughout the cosmos on planetary systems. This natural occurrence would be described as the planet cleansing itself. Or movies such as Independence Day and Battleship which display intelligent life forms in the universe that may or may not come to Earth in peace. What real defense do we have against forces like these?

Comics books is another avenue that fills the void of such possibilities. Heroes are created with special gifts, natural or artificial that help defend against forces outside of human comprehension, till the day we learn to free our minds….

Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers was born of Earth and the Kree, a technologically advanced race of beings that are military based, and the Kree have used their might to conquer planets to form their Empire. The Kree’s military function reminds comic fans of Frieza and his military might in the DBZ Universe. Carol has a large array of superpowers that make her one of the most powerful female heroines in the universe.

Carol is a part of the team called the StarForce, a military team that protects the Kree Empire. This strike force is similar to the Nova Corps and the Green Lantern Corps. Hal Jordan, Carol Danvers and Richard Rider are humans that were chosen to become a part of their cosmic military factions. Hal and Richard were chosen by their predecessor because they were near death and a replacement was needed. Since Carol is half Kree, it was easy to have her powers developed with Kree technology. Hal and Carol share a common background as Air Force pilots, while Richard was a common citizen of Earth. The Nova Force is similar to the Central Power Battery on Oa , where power is administered to all soldiers who fight for the Corps. Later through time, Richard became the host to the entire Nova Force thus giving him the ability of the Xandarian Worldmind, which is very similar to the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree Empire. The main weakness between the three characters is their mental stability and focus. If for any reason these two aspects become compromised, the wielder of power has a great chance of becoming defeated. Among the three, who do you think is the strongest to weakest?

The name Captain Marvel originated from Mar-Vell, a male Kree warrior who closely resembled humans on Earth instead of the blue skinned Kree. The Kree Empire and Carol had two major run-ins with the X-Men. The Kree and the Shi’ar developed a peace accord with themselves to help take on the threat of the Dark Phoenix during her rise in the universe. Before Carol was known as Captain Marvel, she went by Ms. Marvel. At this time, Carol battled with Rogue of the X-Men. Rogue absorbed much of Carol’s cosmic powers. Super strength, flight, durability, and even immortality became a permanent part of Rogues powers, where usually any power Rogue acquires is temporary.

Marvel Studios cast Brie Larson to be Captain Marvel. In the cinematic timeline, The Avengers battled Thanos through his process in collecting the Infinity Stones to no avail. Many comic fans have wondered who is the new hero that Nick Fury has called for, and will this hero ultimately save the universe. Do you think the live action film of Captain Marvel will measure up to the other big Marvel Films? Stay tuned for the movie review…

Dark Phoenix is set to release of June 7, stay tuned for our movie review!!

Dragonball Super: Broly

Akira Toriyama is back with his third anime film Dragonball Super: Broly! Dragonball Super: Broly is the highest-ranking film created around the Z Fighters and this film is a retold story of Broly and Bardock. This story takes place after the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta are at new levels of power and are unaware there is another fighter in their own universe that is strong enough to challenge their refined saiyan God powers……

Broly of the non-canon story, grew up hating Goku because of the internal memory of Goku constantly crying in the saiyan nursery. Broly’s power was so great, it had an adverse effect on his personality and mental stability growing up. Paragus grew fearful of his son to the extent of controlling the saiyan through artificial means. This control later turned on Paragus in the form of hatred, thus losing his life to his son. In the canon story, Broly grew up with a dislike for Vegeta, which was trained in him by Paragus. Just like the non-canon version of Broly, King Vegeta didn’t accept Broly’s extraordinary power because the child was labeled as a lower class saiyan and Broly’s power challenged all those of royal blood. Broly and his father were exiled from the planet instead of going through a failed execution attempt. Paragus vowed to take revenge on the King for his oversight, with the extinction of the saiyan race, Vegeta was the next best option for revenge since Vegeta is the survivor of the Saiyan throne. The story of Bardock was retold as well, thus making Goku’s origin to Earth even more like Superman. In Bardock’s story, fans were also introduced to Goku’s mother Gine, a character never expressed in history until this movie.

Dragonball Super: Broly satisfied fans this time around with visuals of Vegeta as the super saiyan God. This form was introduced in the film Dragonball Z Battle of the Gods, which was a form attained by absorbing the power of 5 pure hearted saiyans. This is important among DBZ fans because this was the second time Vegeta was observed catching up to Goku in power but not displaying his work to attain each level as Goku did. Then the stage moved to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, otherwise known as Super Saiyan Blue. Vegeta amazed fans becoming super saiyan blue in the Resurrection of Frieza, completely skipping over the super saiyan God level. Then Vegeta learned to evolve the super saiyan blue form into a new power level. Dragonball Super Broly has also made Gogeta an official character in the canon series. Not only that, Gogeta is able to become super saiyan God just like his fusion counterpart Vegito. Fusion is an extremely powerful card to play on the battlefield and it was surprising to fans that Broly could withstand the power of the fusion before Gogeta went Blue. If this is the case, would Broly be in fact stronger than all the saiyans in the Tournament of Power?

Comic sites have theories on how the Super Saiyan Four could become canon. Sites such as Comicbookmovie suggest that the road map to Super Saiyan Four is through Broly.  Whis, being a witness to the entire battle, could give Goku and Vegeta new training methods to fully bring out their saiyan potential as Broly did. So far, Whis trained the Vegeta and Goku to master their ki to God levels but never taught the saiyans how to unlock the power aspects their race could wield. Or is it possible Whis already knows the full potential of the saiyan race and could show the saiyans how to use the legendary stage as well…

Even with Broly eliminated in the non-canon Dragonball Z story, that was something anime fans could not accept for the character. Dragonball Super gave fans the idea of Broly with the introduction of Kale. Her outstanding power amazed the Gods in the tournament, and she was ranked among the top 5 strongest fighters. During the seasons of Super, fans can see that Goku, Vegeta, Caulifla and Cabba has similarities that make them parallel with each other.  Now that Broly is made canon, will he apart of surviving saiyans, even becoming a mentor with his parallel counterpart Kale? What was your overall feel for this movie? Do you think this Broly is the best we have seen, or do you think his previous version was better left untouched?

Lord Beerus

Dragonball Z is now Dragonball Super, an era where Earth defenders are battling among gods. Lord Beerus, God of Destruction is the new villain whose purpose is to destroy planets, thus bringing balance in the cosmos. Lord Beerus resembles the appearance of the Egyptian God Set, with destructive power like Sekhmet. The only thing that seems to distract Beerus from his destructive quest is the taste of unique foods. Because of this, Earth is spared as long as Beerus appetite is satisfied.

Even though Lord Beerus is classified a villain because of his destructive nature, he is responsible for making Goku and Vegeta aware of the saiyan God. Although Beerus is a god, he has a martial arts master named Whis, who is responsible for training Beerus and the saiyans to use their god forms. The saiyans trained immensely to master their new powers but still fall short of Beerus’ might individually. Broly and Omega Shenron are two powerful villains that Earth defenders had to face. Omega Shenron is the negative force of Shenron, created from the overuse of the dragonballs. Broly is a saiyan born with abnormal energy reserves that continues to grow rapidly during combat without ever fatiguing. Since both super villains have an overwhelming sense for destruction and with proper training, could Broly or Omega Shenron take on the role as God of Destruction?

Comic Multiverse fan favorite artwork of Lord Beerus goes to the DeviantArt artist NovaSayajinGoku.

Atrocitus

Atrocitus made his introduction to the comic world in the Blackest Night comic series. The Red Lantern Corps is the third strongest corps next to the White and Black Lantern Corps. After losing his family to the Manhunters, Atrocitus was consumed by anger and rage, which fueled his revenge against the Guardians of the Universe. As leader of the Red Lantern Corps, recruiting soldiers wouldn’t be difficult. Many characters throughout all comic universes have gone through intense states of rage

After the Blackest Night introduction, Atrocitus and his Red Lantern Corps made a quick transition to television in the Green Lantern Animated Series Cartoon. This is the third Lantern Corps that has made a live appearance along with the Blue Lantern Corps. Will Atrocitus ever make it to the movie screen or was the animated cartoon series the first- and last-time comic fans will see the Leader and Master of rage?

What if…. Atrocitus went too far to make sure his Corps was the most dominant among them all. What if Atrocitus recruited powerful Sith Lords or even Dark Phoenix herself? Can Atrocitus and his fantasy members be stopped?! To Be Continued….

Comic Multiverse fan favorite artwork of Atrocitus goes to DevianArt artists, code names: vassdeviant and xXNightblade08Xx .
