Storm

Storm is an Omega Level Mutant with the primary power of controlling the weather. The magnitude of her powers can be stretch from Earth to outer space. The depths of her powers led her people to believe she was a goddess, sent to help tribes thrive during harsh weather seasons. After being discovered by Professor X, Storm learned to control her powers at a great degree and even joined his X-Men. Her commitment to the team earned Storm the leadership role in Cyclops absence.

Weather is responsible for shaping the planet and way of life. We have even used the weather to harness energy and feed the population. Unstable weather conditions have taken lives, destroyed homes and cities. If humans could effectively control the weather like Storm, we could change our way of life forever. Humans could even have the ability to make Mars a living planet like Earth. Would Storm be strong enough to control the storms on Jupiter?

Thor is another character in the Marvel universe that can control the weather. Because of Loki’s need to test his brother, he influenced Storm to wield the StormCaster making her the Goddess of Thunder. If Storm retains her mutant powers while acquiring additional powers with StormCaster, is she stronger than Thor at that point? With the X-Men series making it to the big screen, comic fans got a chance to see the weather goddess in action. Halle Berry portrayed Storm in the majority of the film series, then Alexandra Shipp played a younger Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse. Is this the last we will see of this character, or will there be a new Storm if X-Men was ever rebooted?

The Batman

Robert Pattinson will become the sixth Batman in the DC cinematic universe. This movie is another take on the Batman, resembling Batman Year One and its dark theme is similar to The Crow. This movie will feature the antihero CatWoman and the villains The Riddler, Penguin and Carmine Falcone. The Batman releases October 1, 2021, but will possibly be pushed back because of the Covid-19 pandemic. How will Robert Pattinson measure up to the Batmen before him?

Shazam Movie Review!!!

Shazam has entered into the DC Cinematic Universe, with good success and minimal criticism from comic fans! To date, the film has generated $325.5 million worldwide and with Rotten Tomatoes rating of 90%, Shazam gains popularity like his cinematic counterparts the Justice League. This 2019 feature by DC Comics is a comedy action adventure, for it emphasizes Captain Marvel’s adolescent behavior to the audience. Billy Batson is a kid with superpowers, that must learn the importance of responsibility and family.

When Shazam was first announced with its release, fans instantly thought Shazam would battle Black Adam. Instead, Shazam’s first rival was with Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, a scientist who studied magic in hopes to achieve what science cannot. In the comics, Thaddeus is responsible for freeing Black Adam from imprisonment, believing he could learn the magical arts from the ancient being. In this film, Thaddeus gained powers from the collective force of the Seven Deadly Sins, making him as powerful as Shazam. DWayne “The Rock” Johnson continuously petitioned that he would love to play the role of Black Adam, instead becoming the executive producer of this film! Even though Black Adam was absent, Dwayne’s involvement leaves the door wide open for a sequel and his awaited appearance as Shazam’s primary nemesis.

Another notable change didn’t resonate with comic fans was casting Djimon Hounson as the Wizard Shazam. This is because Djimon played as the King of the Fishermen in the 2018 AquaMan film, and recently reprising his role as Korath in 2019 Captain Marvel. Was Djimon used to connect the two characters together on screen because of sharing the same name Captain Marvel? And how is it Djimon is playing two characters in the same universe?? The Wizard’s ethnicity changed, much like Samuel Jackson playing Nick Fury or Idris Elba playing Heimdall. Do you think changing the ethnicity of comic characters is necessary for story and character development on screen?

One surprise to the film was the introduction of the Shazam Family. Much like the Family of the comics, Billy passed on the power of Shazam to his adopted brothers and sisters. The Family assisted Billy in defeating, then imprisoning the Seven Deadly Sins. In turn, Billy gained not only an adopted family in human form, but also a super team of his own. Since this is the case, should Shazam even join the Justice League as a recruit? Do you think the Shazam Family is strong enough to overpower the League?

The DC Universe has yet to show a successful cinematic universe with the consistency like The Marvel Cinematic Universe. Shazam could have been a great extension of the Justice League, as mentioned by Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince at the end of the 2018 film, where Bruce would use the old Wayne Manor as the Justice League headquarters.  Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck both dropped from their character roles, once again leaving fans wondering, who will be the next Batman and Superman? Not only that, will the next chosen actors supersede the earlier portrayals?

So, what were your thoughts on the movie? Shazam is a great film that WILL be overshadowed when Avengers: Endgame is released as well as Star Wars: The Rise of SkyWalker later this year. Just between Captain Marvel 2019 and Shazam 2019, Marvel and DC, who do you think had a better movie between the two characters?? Leave your thoughts below!

Spiderman: Homecoming Movie Review!!

How did you like SpiderMan: Homecoming? To date, the film grossed $880.9 million with War for the Planet of the Apes being released a week after. Spiderman is introduced in Civil War by Tony Stark during the attempted capture of Captain America and Bucky. This film expands on the relationship between Peter and Tony, even portraying events that led up to the battle in Civil War. This is not an origin story of Spiderman, more of an origin on his future involvement with the Avengers.

The Spider suit was one of the highlights of Homecoming! As found in the comics, Stark created suits for Spiderman to further enhance his crime fighting abilities. The traditional blue, red and black design was kept, but was upgraded with Stark’s technology. The technology allowed Spiderman to execute the different web abilities we know from the comics. Various combinations such as taser web, rapid fire, web grenades even the famous web wings were utilized during different sequences. The spidey mask was enhanced with thermal mapping, facial recognition, navigation, even a user interface called Karen. Karen functions with the suit like J.A.R.V.I.S does with the Iron Man armors. At the end of the film, Tony created another suit for Peter in hopes of him joining The Avengers. That suit didn’t receive much screen time, for Peter declined Tony’s offer of membership. What type of upgrades does that suit have that we haven’t seen yet on-screen?

What was your take on Michael Keaton playing the Vulture?? This was also a highlight for the film because Batman was an iconic role for Keaton in the cinematic universe of DC Comics. Now crossing into Marvel Comics, Keaton portrays the cinematic version of Vulture, who is a salvage owner in New York City. His team was responsible for the cleanup after Loki‘s attempt to conquer the planet in the first Avengers film. After being put out of business, Toomes and his employees kept some of the alien technology to create weapons for the underground market. The Shocker character was also involved in this film as a member of Toomes’s team. The Shocker was portrayed by actor Bokeem Woodbine. Do you think the Shocker was necessary for this film?

Now, the question that everyone has asked: who do you think was the ultimate Spiderman between Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland?? Toby was able to portray the wall crawler in a 3 movie series which grossed $2.4 billion worldwide. These 3 films were a big hit for the character Spiderman in the cinematic universe and Marvel Comics. Next, Andrew Garfield became web slinger in the Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2. These two films grossed $1.4 billion dollars worldwide. Andrew’s version of Spiderman was to be a reboot trilogy, only to be replaced by Tom Holland’s Spiderman. Instead of another origin story, Tom’s Spiderman is being incorporated with the other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe namely with the Avengers. If you read the comics, you would know Spiderman is involved in the upcoming war against Thanos. Let us know what you thought of this third installment of Spiderman in the comment section below. Also

Superman Vs. Batman

Superman vs Batman has always been a hot topic among comic fans for a long time. Because of their popularity, both characters are involved with many crossover battles against foes with similar abilities. Since Batman and Superman are both heroes, a continual battle between the two characters could not exist. Seemingly enough, the only reason for confrontation between Batman and Superman is for dominate leadership over what it means to be a hero.

Many fans favor Batman because of his dedication to his crime fighting career. Bruce’s determination on becoming the greatest crime fighter he can be, pushed him beyond his physical limits. Wayne’s technology and resources also gives Batman an advantage over Superman / Clark Kent. Batman’s mastery of fear allows him to take on opponents more powerful than himself even if it means certain death. Superman has even considered Batman to be the world’s most dangerous man…Superman is also a favorite among comic fans because he is one of the most powerful characters in DC Comics history. His superpowers allow him to take on most opponents with little effort. Flight, super speed, invulnerability, longevity, prominent abilities anyone would love to have. Even though Superman is an alien from another world, his values and morals are that of a good human on Earth. Such great values and morals motivate Superman to use his powers for the good of the people. His normal persona as Clark Kent allows him to live a life as a reporter, keeping him grounded to world issues, thus helping him become a better world hero.Batman and Superman have many publications where they would battle. Finally, the two characters are featured in the same, live action film: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is Zack Synder‘s take on the battle between the two icons. Who do you think would ultimately win between Superman and Batman?

Dragonball Super: Broly

Akira Toriyama is back with his third anime film Dragonball Super: Broly! Dragonball Super: Broly is the highest-ranking film created around the Z Fighters and this film is a retold story of Broly and Bardock. This story takes place after the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta are at new levels of power and are unaware there is another fighter in their own universe that is strong enough to challenge their refined saiyan God powers……

Broly of the non-canon story, grew up hating Goku because of the internal memory of Goku constantly crying in the saiyan nursery. Broly’s power was so great, it had an adverse effect on his personality and mental stability growing up. Paragus grew fearful of his son to the extent of controlling the saiyan through artificial means. This control later turned on Paragus in the form of hatred, thus losing his life to his son. In the canon story, Broly grew up with a dislike for Vegeta, which was trained in him by Paragus. Just like the non-canon version of Broly, King Vegeta didn’t accept Broly’s extraordinary power because the child was labeled as a lower class saiyan and Broly’s power challenged all those of royal blood. Broly and his father were exiled from the planet instead of going through a failed execution attempt. Paragus vowed to take revenge on the King for his oversight, with the extinction of the saiyan race, Vegeta was the next best option for revenge since Vegeta is the survivor of the Saiyan throne. The story of Bardock was retold as well, thus making Goku’s origin to Earth even more like Superman. In Bardock’s story, fans were also introduced to Goku’s mother Gine, a character never expressed in history until this movie.

Dragonball Super: Broly satisfied fans this time around with visuals of Vegeta as the super saiyan God. This form was introduced in the film Dragonball Z Battle of the Gods, which was a form attained by absorbing the power of 5 pure hearted saiyans. This is important among DBZ fans because this was the second time Vegeta was observed catching up to Goku in power but not displaying his work to attain each level as Goku did. Then the stage moved to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, otherwise known as Super Saiyan Blue. Vegeta amazed fans becoming super saiyan blue in the Resurrection of Frieza, completely skipping over the super saiyan God level. Then Vegeta learned to evolve the super saiyan blue form into a new power level. Dragonball Super Broly has also made Gogeta an official character in the canon series. Not only that, Gogeta is able to become super saiyan God just like his fusion counterpart Vegito. Fusion is an extremely powerful card to play on the battlefield and it was surprising to fans that Broly could withstand the power of the fusion before Gogeta went Blue. If this is the case, would Broly be in fact stronger than all the saiyans in the Tournament of Power?

Comic sites have theories on how the Super Saiyan Four could become canon. Sites such as Comicbookmovie suggest that the road map to Super Saiyan Four is through Broly.  Whis, being a witness to the entire battle, could give Goku and Vegeta new training methods to fully bring out their saiyan potential as Broly did. So far, Whis trained the Vegeta and Goku to master their ki to God levels but never taught the saiyans how to unlock the power aspects their race could wield. Or is it possible Whis already knows the full potential of the saiyan race and could show the saiyans how to use the legendary stage as well…

Even with Broly eliminated in the non-canon Dragonball Z story, that was something anime fans could not accept for the character. Dragonball Super gave fans the idea of Broly with the introduction of Kale. Her outstanding power amazed the Gods in the tournament, and she was ranked among the top 5 strongest fighters. During the seasons of Super, fans can see that Goku, Vegeta, Caulifla and Cabba has similarities that make them parallel with each other.  Now that Broly is made canon, will he apart of surviving saiyans, even becoming a mentor with his parallel counterpart Kale? What was your overall feel for this movie? Do you think this Broly is the best we have seen, or do you think his previous version was better left untouched?

Thor: Ragnarok

Well… well what can we expect from this film?! This will be the third motion picture for the character Thor, and it seems with each movie, the tone changes. The first film was an intro for the character in the cinematic universe. Thor becomes a hero for Earth as well proving himself worthy in his realm of Asgard. Thor’s second film had a darker theme, illustrating the darker enemies of Asgard who seek a destructive weapon for power and control. The film was also a major piece to the upcoming film Infinity War. In this trailer of Ragnarok, we see Asgard once again under attack but this time by Hela, ruler of Valhalla. Mjolnir is destroyed and it looks as if Thor is taken captive and shipped to a distant part of the universe. Now the film changes giving off the similar retro feel we get with the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Thor no longer looking like the hero we recognize. He’s taken on the look of a gladiator and to our surprise, we will see Thor fighting the Hulk once again. We can also see elements of the World War Hulk in play but instantly have fans wondering: how could The Hulk been captured to become a gladiator off Earth? Last, we seen of The Hulk was the Age of Ultron, as he left his team behind after their fight with Ultron. This is the first of many trailers to come, Thor: Ragnarok will release in November….when that time comes who will win in their battle this time: Thor or The Hulk?

Megatron

Megatron is the leader of the Decepticon Army and uprising on Cybertron. Megatron was created by the Quintessons. His purpose for creation was a tool for war, being that most of his transformation represents military weapons and vehicles. As a gladiator champion, Megatron gained the respect and influential voice from the population on Cybertron. The name Megatron is short from his chosen gladiator name Megatronus. This political gain of power is similar to the gladiators of Rome, gaining respect of the people through undefeated battles.

Optimus Prime was a pupil to Megatron, believing in helping end the corruption in the governing body on Cybertron. The influence and power Megatron gained began to corrupt him. Megatron believed that not only Cybertron should be reshaped into a new order, but he also believed the universe should be reshaped as well, all in his image. Optimus believed all beings in the universe have the right for freedom than be ruled by a tyrant. The war on Cybertron began from the difference in ideals of a mentor and pupil.

Megatron appeared on television in the 1980’s in his original form, exactly as depicted in the comics. Megatron then became two versions of the T-Rex in Beast Wars series. The Beast Wars series is of a different timeline than the original Transformers. These different timelines later crossed paths when Megatron combined his spark with the original Megatron resulting in his dragon form. Megatron’s next animated form was in Transformers Prime, as a cybertronian space fighter, which was similarly used in his live action movie appearance Transformers 1 and 2. In the film Transformers 4, Megatron was reformed as Galvatron, a creation made by human hands than that of Unicron. Did movie producers preserve the vision of Megatron on film or has the various changes cripple the Emperor of Destruction?

Broly

Saiyans are known as the warrior race with an appetite for battle and power. Broly is the deadliest and most powerful saiyan known to history and is also known as the Legendary Super Saiyan. Broly’s power level was so enormous at birth, it put fear in King Vegeta. Broly’s power level matched the King’s, and it was predicted Broly will eventually surpass the royal bloodline. King Vegeta ordered Broly to be killed. Even though the attempt was fatal, Broly survived. As a result, Broly’s power doubled and at that point in time, he the strongest saiyan alive. The increase in power allowed infant Broly to shield himself and his father from the explosion of Planet Vegeta. Broly grew to become an uncontrolled superpower capable of destroying planets, solar systems and galaxies, all to feed his desire for destruction.

Lower class saiyan babies are jettisoned into the universe, to selected planets to be conquered. It seems odd to DBZ fans on why Broly was created with a subconscious annoyance with Goku, simply because of his constant crying as an infant. This hatred for Goku remained with Broly into adulthood which is also confusing to readers to how Broly would recognize Goku in adult form. Goku was destined to purge life on Earth and Broly set to be executed. Through many unforeseen circumstances, their destinies changed, Broly turned out to be the destroyer of the universe while Goku became the protector. In all respects, Broly and Goku is the representation of the light and darkness of the saiyan race.

Comic fans often wonder how Broly would fair against the Z fighters’ most difficult opponents: Kid Buu and Omega Shenron. In the DBZ anime, all the Z fighters including Goku eventually tires out in battle. Replenishment of power comes from available senzu beans or borrowed energy; tactics Broly doesn’t need since he wields the legendary form. Broly’s power would increase dramatically during the intense battle and it’s even possible that in either battle, Broly could jump through the different levels of super saiyan. Kid Buu would need to absorb Omega Shenron to gain an advantage on Broly. Comic fans even discussed fantasy crossover battles between Broly, Superman and the Hulk. Superman and the Hulk have a lack of knowledge on ki manipulation, so how would they able to withstand Broly’s sheer force? Since Broly appeared to be defeated prematurely in the animated movies, DBZ fans refuse to let the idea of Broly die. Broly’s life is extended in the DBZ universe through video game storylines. Will we get a new set of movies welcoming the return of Broly?!

Venom

Venom is apart of an alien race of symbiotes, when bonded with a host, becomes a powerful warrior taking on the personality and physical attributes of its host. What makes these symbiotes seem villainous is when they bond with a host, the symbiote would feed off the chemicals released from the host’s body, chemicals which are released when emotions like anger is triggered. Adrenaline is the chemical symbiotes primarily feed on. If the adrenaline isn’t released in a desired amount for consumption, the symbiote would find another host or dominate the mind and body of its current host(which is usually a superhuman) causing them to engage in extreme activities that would increase the adrenaline levels, eventually leaving the host depleted. Only way to rid oneself of these parasitic symbiotes is by high pitch sound waves or intense flame.

Spiderman was a perfect bond for the symbiote because as a hero with superpowers, daily crime fighting keeps his adrenaline levels at a high rate and for extended periods of time. Since Spiderman was Venom’s first host, every host after was able to have the powers of Spiderman. Venom became a nemesis to Spiderman after bonding with its next host Eddie Brock. Eddie had a deep hatred toward Spiderman, a hatred in which the symbiote fed on and acted upon as its own.

The Venom symbiote also has the ability to reproduce. Its offspring bonded with a serial killer becoming the villainous Carnage. Carnage in turn had an offspring called Toxin, which Carnage despised because it believed Toxin would be more powerful than itself and Venom. Eddie Brock eventually rid himself of the Venom symbiote, but small remnants of the symbiote bonded with Brock’s white blood cells creating the symbiote Anti-Venom. The Anti-Venom symbiote does not dominate its host like other symbiotes but does become active and protects its host when Venom or other symbiotes are present. The Anti-Venom symbiote operates like the white bloods in the human body which help defend and cure the body of viruses and infections.

Venom was featured in the live action film Spiderman 3, much to the disapproval of comic fans. Most comic fans expected a bulky powerful Venom as seen in cartoon and comic book, but instead received a smaller grade Venom who wasn’t as threatening as comic fans were raised to believe. The Spiderman franchise was rebooted in 2012 with better graphics and story line. Will Venom also get a recreated look? A look that comic fans would love and recognize as the true Venom?….
